The Jewel (The Lone City #1) by Amy Ewing
Have you ever accidentally come across a book and completely fell head over heels? This is what happened with Amy Ewing's trilogy called The Lone City. I thought I would review the first in the series, The Jewel, but the second in the series has just been released and is called The White Rose. I did a small review in my latest Sunday Edit post but I wanted to do a full review because I am actually a little obsessed. The Jewel is another dystopian YA novel but don't be fooled; Amy Ewing has created a world you can get absolutely lost in and become part of Violet Lasting's life. Violet is the main character that is sold to The Duchess of the Lake, a founding family living in The Jewel. Violet is sold as Lot 197, a surrogate mother, for a founding family that cannot bear children but the world Violet is entering is darker than ever imagined. If you loved The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, then you'll love this.
