Money Supermarket's The Charcoal Challenge

So, recently I was contacted by the lovely people over at Money Supermarket to take part in their latest challenge, 'The Charcoal Challenge'. I guess you can gather that it meant to get your barbeque on, and let's face it, with the weather we have been having, everybody was definitely doing this anyway so I jumped at the chance! Money Supermarket wanted to see how a £50 budget could be stretched to host a barbeque for family and friends so I thought, as it was my birthday weekend, I'd host a 'Big Fat Greek' barbeque! I'm a family person, and decided that a family event would be the best plan for my six person household. I wanted to put a smile on their faces, and this did just that. Everything, down to the dips and skewers were home made (just like it should be!) and we were all so full by the end of the night. Being Greek, meat was certainly on the menu. We've all seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding when Aunt Voula (it's still weird that my aunt is called Voula!) mistakes a vegetarian for still eating lamb, and trust me, this mentality for a lot of Greek families is very true. Food is the main part of the day, when a family can sit down and catch up and be with each other, and that is what I wanted to bring to the table. Along with tzatziki, houmous, lamb chops, chicken, grilled veggies, pork skewers, lamb koftas, pitta breads, Greek salad and not forgetting Ouzo (OPA!) We all had a lovely evening together, and I had a great birthday! Food, drinks and sunshine, it doesn't get better than that!
